NOTE: John J Gulledge enlisted in the Confederate Army on May 21, 1863 at the age of 38. He was a private in the 1st regiment SC regulars, company H, 1st SC infantry (Butlers Infantry). Job classification was Artillery/Infantry. He was at the battle of Gettysburg on July 3, 1863 with the 3rd Army Corps, general A.P Hill commanding, Pender's Division, 1st Brigade under Major McCreary. His enlistment ended when he was paroled in Greensboro, NC on April 28, 1865. Other battles he was in during his enlistment: Morris Island 7/15/1863; Averysboro, NC 3/16/1865; Bentonville, NC 3/19/1865.
John J Gulledge was said to have been wounded sometime during his service, by a spent mini ball, date not known. I believe the date could have been October 20,1864. the records show him absent from this date on 30 day furlough by authority of Medical Examination Board.
