NOTE: Mary Ida Payne's Mother, Elizabeth Truell, was from France she was borne in 1840 and died during the flue epidemic of 1918 in Fredericksburg, VA.. Elizabeth Truell's Father was a Professor of Art and taught French at William & Mary College in Virginia. I do not know his name but his wife's maiden name was Swift. Mary Ida Payne's Mother Elizabeth Truell was a seamstress and sowed for the rich in Fredericksburg, VA. When Mary Ida was pregnant she was told by Mary Custis Lee that when she, Mary Ida, had her baby and if it was a boy that she, Mary Custis Lee, would sow his first pair of long pants if Mary Ida would name him Robert Edward Lee. This Came to pass. This story was passed down from my Great Grandmother, Mary Ida Payne Willoughby, to my grandmother, Eunice Willoughby Cox, to my Mother, Mary Louise Cox Gulledge to me Garey Gulledge. Also the family language "TUT" was passed down to family members through this same line.
